We answer posts in the newsgroup so many people can see and learn. If you
have a game port device, plug it in, go into Control Panel/Game Controllers
and Add the Microsoft SideWinder (auto detect). The system will install the
files for you.

If you have a USB device, install the version 4.0 software and then plug in
the controller.

I tried as suggested but I get a message saying that I have
no port driver installed. Am running the av 97 card which I
believe is a problem with the joystick port. Cant seem to
find where to get a driver for it or one for the joystick
to run it on xp. this is not usb but a older style plug.
its worked ok on win 98. any ideas??
thanks

You probably need to track down the manufacturer's web site, Dave, for the
proper drivers. Depending on the maker, you may need to do some digging.
You could start at www.google.com, and do a search for the actual name on
the card itself. You might open the case and see what the configuration is,
too, because it may be part of the motherboard and updating the drivers/BIOS
for that might fix it.
