joing a child domain to parent domain over slow link ?

i have beed assinged a task on my job to make a child domain & join to
parent domain in the same forest , tree . now the problem is that , i only
have a 256Kbps VPN conection linking parent & child to be , will it be
sufficent ? lates on i want to configure sites on smtp protocole , but how
can i do that without joining ? i am confused , i have never done this
before ?

anyone care to explain ?

hmm, I have DC's working properly on 128 and 256 Kbps connections
without a problem - after initial promotion good replication schedule
should let You run this domain withou problems.

There are usually not very many reasons for creating a child domain.
Usually you can keep one domain but have multiple physical locations. This
is exactly what Active Directory Sites and Services are for....

If you do not mind, what is the reason/are the reasons for creating a child
domain?
