*****Join computer to domain from different network (can not use by domain.com, but 'domain' only)

Hi there,

We have issue that when we join computers from different network
by using 'mydomain.com', the users won't be able to logon the domain. BUT
if we join computers by 'domain' only, the users are able to logon. Before
we were able to join computers from different networks using 'mydomain.com',
now we have to use 'mydomain' only !! Any one's idea will be appreciated.
(Nothing
has been changed to current domain, but only additional domain added).

A minor factor might be slightly effect as I was troubleshooting:
- There was one user in Net1, stand-alone workstation, he joined his
computer to workgroup called also 'mydomain'. Eventually, he created
a workgroup named 'mydomain' on the Net1's LAN the same with our
current domain name 'mydomain'. But I found when he did this, the computers
are already member of 'mydomain' from Net2 could not see other domain
member workstation in Net1. So I did change his computer to 'workgroup' as
normal.

Architecture:
- Net1 10.0.0.0 (255.255.255.0)
Windows 2000 DC/DNS/WINS 10.0.0.5

- Net2 192.168.0.0 (255.255.255.0)
Can be routing to Net2 without manipulating the IP from Net2 (Win2K as
router)
(means the Net1 will see the computers from Net2 as their original IP
address)
-Clients in Net2 DNS setup as the DC's DNS server in Net1
- Clients in Net2 WINS setup as the DC's WINS server in Net1 (Primary)
- Clients in Net2 WINS set up as the Win2K router server in Net2
(Secondary)

Hello this sounds like incorrect DNS Settings to me.

Make sure you are availabel to ping the full AD domain name by FQDN ex: ping
company.com both from your servers and clients.

If not you should set the clients TCP/IP settings DNS to point to one of our
Domain Controllers running DNS as well as on your servers.

Hi there,

Thanks for your response. When I ping mydomain.com, the returned IP is
the 1st DC controller on Net1. Seems to be okay for me for the DNS setting.

You should not have multiple NetBIOS name on the network, Install the
Windows Server Support Tools located in your Windows Server CD, run the
command-line based untily DCDIAG and NETDIAG and post the result back here.

Take care
