JavaScript problem?

S

STEPHEN A ZOBAL

I installed a search engine (in JavaScript) on one of my web pages but I get
an "Error on page" message when initiating a keyword search. The search
engine works just fine with Firefox, Netscape, and Opera browsers. Am I
overlooking an Enable option in the IE Tools/Internet Options bar?

Hi STEPHEN :)

You don't mention the version of Windows you are using, which really is a
must when asking for help in the newsgroups, nor the type of connection you
are using (i.e. Dial-up, DSL, Cable), but, try the following as it may apply
to your OS and see if it helps:

To enable Java, take these steps:
Internet Explorer User:
From the Menu bar, select Tools.
Select Internet Options.
Select Security.
Internet.
Click Custom Level.
Scroll down the Security Settings box to Microsoft VM, then Java Permission,
select Medium Safety. Click OK.
A prompt box will now appear asking "Warning... Are you sure you want to
change the security settings for this zone? Yes/No." Click Yes.
Click OK.

If you have any 3rd party toolbars such as Google, MSN or Yahoo, disable
them. If you have Yahoo Companion, uninstall it. If you have any 3rd party
software, popup or ad blockers, disable them.

Hope this helps.

Jan, he said JavaScript, not Java. There is no relationship between the
two.

Tools | Internet Options | Security
Click Customize for the proper zone and make sure the settings for Active
Scripting is what you want.

Jan, I did all the steps you outlined to enable JavaScript, but to no avail.
I'm using XP Home w/SP2 and a DSL connection.

I finally gave up on the script and located another script that does the job
without a problem. Must have been a "funny" in the 1st script. Thanks to
all who responded to my plea for help.
