Did you notice the large orange circle with the big blue arrow that
says "Download NOW!" on the left hand side?

Did you look at the manual download instructions?

Did you click on the arrow and see two choices?

Did you read the instructions?

All you have to do is choose if you want to install Java over the "net"
or download the full install version . It really is pretty simple if
you read the instructions.

Hi Lauria,
The advice you've been given for downloading is correct, but if your only
need for Java is a web chatroom app then perhaps you might be interested to
know that you still can get the Microsoft version called a Java Virtual
Machine(JVM). The download will be smaller and at least in my opinion
Internet Explorer will be more stable. Now I should tell you that Microsoft
cannot supply the JVM to you directly because a court ruled that they had
infringed the copyright of Java's developer Sun Microsystem. However
Microsoft still support existing installations of JVM for security fixes and
by agreement with Sun will do so until December 2007, by which time Windows
Vista will be here optomised to support the Sun product. Its your choice but
if you want the Microsoft JVM you can get it here
http://virtualmachine.no-ip.info/ Run the installation check and just follow
the instructions. Just an alternative the choice is yours. I should say
there is nothing illegal or dishonest about doing this

It's unlikely that you know anything about the OP's level of computer
literacy or mental capacity.
I agree that it's a simple procedure, but that doesn't in any way suggest
that everyone else on this planet finds it simple.

why is everyone critizing me? All I ask a simple question and I've been
talked as if I was down right stupid. It may be simple but not everybody's
computer work the same as other. Yes, I read the instruction and all. I'm
beginning to think that my computer is blocking it from downloading. It's
sure taking it time to do their "checking configuration"

I wasn't criticizing you & I apologise if you read it that way. I'm
criticising the person who is criticizing you.

If its any consolation I went to look at the download area knowing what I
was looking for and found some of that site confusing-web designers call it
a bad visitor experience. Some people on newsgroups are very abrupt when
they write and it often comes over as offensive. I suspect its not
intentional in most cases, but there is an element not necessarily in this
thread but generally that enjoy putting people down. I myself answer
questions assuming I'm talking to someone of around 14 -not too complicated
and explained in simple terms-that no doubt can come over the wrong way as
well-but its not intended. It can be hard to get the balance right.
