Java Virtual Machine Launcher

John Corson

I have seen issue posted before, but have not found the fix. An error
message pops up saying
"Java Virtual Machine Launcher Could not find main class. Program will
terminate." This happens usually upon reboot. I have run spybot and
ad-aware SE, virus definitions are up-to-date and Java VM has been
re-installed, but still have this same issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Understand that because of a court decision Microsoft will stop all Java
support after 30 SEP 04 and is recommending that you use the Sun JRE.

Thanks Jim and Frank!!! Jim, I found I just had to disable WJView.exe in
msconfig and find what spyware program was partially missing or corrupt.
When upgrading from Ad-Aware 6 to Ad-Aware SE, not all of the previous
version was uninstalled,k and according to the article you refered me to,
that was the culprit. Thanks!!

You probably had malware written in Java that an AV or anti-spyware
program has removed, leaving a startup entry for the Java VM (WJview)
sitting there with nothing to launch.

Start - Run and run MSConfig.exe
Look in the Startup page for a line that has WJView in the Command
column - you may need to drag the divider to its right in the headers so
as to see enough. Uncheck the line, and perhaps also check what was the
Java program, after the wjview.exe on the line.

OK out, don't bother to reboot now, but next time you do there will be a
panel come up about 'you are using the System Configuration tool' -
check the 'don't show again' box and Exit

The MS support link got me looking in the right direction, it was something
in the startup config. Run msconfig.exe
Thanks!
