java links not working

Recently I am unable to get java links to work in IE6. I had to go to my Netscape browser to post this question, as the link to post a question is java. I can not do right click and open in new window either. What the hell is going on? Very frustrating. I checked my internet options, and the java is checked. I had a similar problem some months ago but was able to get it working again. I don't remember the details now though. Please help, as I run into this problems daily, and there is no work around many times. Some times I can copy the link and then paste it into my browser address bar. But that does not always work, depends on the format of the link

I am running Win.XP. I have done all of the updates. In fact, this seemed to start after the last or next to last update I did. Please help if you can.

I'm sorry that I can't be of more help, but as for your
window problem with IE6, I have found that if you
press 'ESC', and then F5, the new window will refresh and
force the new window to load. It is working for me while I
post to this forum, too. I'm trying to find a resolution
to this also... This works in the meantime.

Thanks Brian, but this is not even working for me. The f5 key is a refresh key, but the esc key does not seem to have any effect on it. I tried pressing them in sequence, and together, and all I got was a reload of the page either way. Man this is frustrating. I am going to have to go back to using Netscape, as working much of the day on the web I run into this problem very often. It seems like the MS Update causes as many problems as it fixes. I am wondering if a system restore to about a month ago would help?

I believe that the MS "Communities" pages use JavaScript, not Java.

1. You might want to refresh your scripting engine:

or

Windows Script 5.6 for Windows 2000 and XP

Sometimes there's a corrupt file in the cache and one must go to Tools |
Internet Options and click Delete Files.

2a. Start>Run>Regsvr32 vbscript.dll

2b. Start>Run>Regsvr32 jscript.dll

(WinXP users who have problems with 2a and 2b, see
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers_9.htm)

3. Re-register all DLLs listed in http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281679

5a. IE Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Browsing>Enable third-party browser
extensions (uncheck & reboot).

5b. Find the hijacker that caused 5a to be checked (or if none were checked,
check for hijackware anyway):
