Java Applet failed to load

I am unable to play Yahoo! games. Everytime I try to enter the "game " room
the screen comes up as if it is going to load and then a red "x" appears in
the left corner and it says done at the bottom of my screen, but the game
room did not load. I have installed JRE and followed all of the suggested
tips (i.e. modified security settings, cleared cached, restarted, etc.) of
sun Java's website. I am using IE6 with Windows XP Home Edition 2002 SP1.
Please help!

Do you have any security software installed, a firewall for example? It's
possible the settings in the firewall or some other security application,
antivirus perhaps, is blocking your ability to play the games.

If the above doesn't help, you should try this question on the
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6.browser newsgroup

Ihave checked the security settings and have lowered them. How would I know
if the Antivirus software I am using is not allowing the applet to load? For
Instance, I do not see any Norton windows that show it blocked a possibly
harmful application from loading. Please advise (but I will also try the
other discussion thread as well.)

You would need to look at the options for Norton Antivirus, you also might
try temporarily disabling it so it won't start on boot up, reboot the system
to be sure it is not loaded, then go to the Yahoo game site. If it has to
do with the antivirus, the site should load if the antivirus is disabled.
If it does load, then you would need to search the applications options to
see what it might be blocking that is causing this. You might have to
deselect items one by one, reboot, return to the site and see if the
specific item is the source of the issue.

Michael:
Thanks for all your help. Your last response didn't resolve my problem, but
here's what did(or at least I can get in to Yahoo! Games now)

I followed the Microsoft Article 283807 to no avail. I actually don't have
Norton Antivirus. I deleted the Yahoo!Games files from temporary internet
files and did a complete shutdown.

Thanks for all your help though.

http://download.games.yahoo.com/games/clients/y/at1_x.cab you need to
download from yahoo active x controls. To check to see if you have them
installed, open internet explorer, go to tools internet options, under the
section called temp...internet files click on settings settings and then to
view objects, in here you should see if yahoo game is installed.
Also by the way you should install service pack two, it is better for
downloads and security issues, as well as firewall.............
