Jane's USAF and WindowsXP

Eric

Anyone have any luck getting this to run under WinXP?

I tried running it under different "compatibilities" (Win95/98, Win2000,
ect).

Read on the web and in newsgroups that hardly anyone has gotten it to work.

Jane's doesn't seem to exist anymore. This used to be: www.janes.ea.com

USAF was a pretty decent game a few years ago, but if there isn't a WinXP
patch then its going into the trash.

I don't feel like making a Win98 partition just for it.

Thanks..

Someone did find a way to install the game, here's a quote from their post:

"OK, I figured out how to make it work. The problem is
that the setup program is not Win XP compatible. You can
get around this by copying the entire CD to your hard
drive. Next overwrite the setup.exe and _setup.dll with
new ones from another game (I used Jane's USAF). Then
run the setup from your hard drive (I did the full
install). Next, make sure your game is patched to at
least version 1.2 (available from the Jane's site).
Finally, go to your registry and find the entry for Fleet
command. Edit the setting for the CD Path to your CD
drive letter since it will be set to wherever you
installed your game from. That's it."

I did the above and it worked great. Could even apply the patches/updates
afterwords.

That would be great, except that it isn't "Jane's Fleet Command" that I'm
trying to get to run under XP, it's "Jane's USAF". :^)

The setup for "USAF" runs fine under WinXP, the problem (as I've read from
several sources) lies with some API functions and how the menus are driven.
Its unfortunate since this is a really decent game. Throwing it into the
trash is a little hasty, I'll just hold on to it until I eventually get
motived enough to install Win98 on another partition. :^)

Thanks though...
