I've been Hacked!

HI.
My ISP (Telus) has informed me I've been hacked and being
used as a servor for a game called Battlefield. They said
there is alot of traffic coming from my adress which
explains my low speeds.

I have a firewall in place and run an antivirus program.
There were no viruses found with the antivirus software.

Shouldn't my ISP be able to tell me who did it. They seem
to have left me on my own on this one,

I just installed a free trial of ZoneAlarm Pro and it's
blocked 1105 intrusions with 42 of them being high rated.
It seems I do have some sort've bug of some kind allowing
it to use me as a servor. How do I look for it to get rid
of it?

To identify the rougue application, I would first remove all program access
permissions, reboot and wait to see what asks for permission to accwess the
internet. Then if there was anything of which I was unsure about the
legitimacy, I would look it up on google.

Also, disable file and printer sharing (google will tell you how, or XP's
help and support) and then turn off unnecessary services (look up Black
Viper's site on google for instructions on that).

Make sure all accounts on your machine are passworded and the guest account
is turned off.

However because you have not been firewalled up until now any of your other
system files could have been modified by the hackers and you cannot be
certain that it is clean even after apparently finding what you think is
the culprit application so far. They may have left other back doors.

Personally I would format my hard drive and re-install XP just to be
certain.

You are on your own. The ISP can't be responsible for all their customers'
PCs getting compromised. They guarantee the bandwidth and the service.
It's your job to keep your end secure. You need to install the latest
Windows patches and fix whatever is wrong with your firewall (something
obviously is). I'd recommend a hardware firewall (LinkSys BEFSX41 will do
the job if you have a hight speed connection - search amazon.com for it).
You also need to keep your virus definitions up to date.
