It is now safe to turn off your computer

I am using XP SP2 with ACPI compliant hardware.
I recently turned ACPI off in the BIOS and after turning it back on I now
get the "now safe" message at shutdown and the machine no longer powers off
by itself, but requires that the power button be pressed.

How can I fix this?

So what's the problem?
