Something to try...

Control Panel|POWER OPTIONS

Click on "change plan settings" (for the plan in use)
Click on "change advanced power settings"

Expand the SLEEP branch
If there is an HYBRID SLEEP subfolder, expand it and set it to ON (if it
isn't that already)

Hi,
I have something odd after resuming from sleep mode where I can not open
certian apps again after they are closed, for example Live Messenger. Also
on the odd occasion my network adapter won't detect a cable plugged in
(although i get link led on the back of the card) - so a simple reboot fixes
this

There is an MS Vista Update that addresses this I think. It's optional so
wouldn't be installed automatically even if you have automatic updates
turned on. Run Windows update and check the details of the optional updates
and you should see it.

Hope this helps.

In my case a reboot also fixes the problem, but this way I can' make use of
the sleeping mode. I found update
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929685/en-us) which fixes audio problems.
Attempted instaling but said in my case was not applicable. There is another
fix 919777 which could be also appropriate but they recomend not to install
it unless absolutelly required.

Some more info from my bug in case is helpfull. Micro and Sound are not the
only ones affected, webcam as well. Monitor is Ok thought (some people posted
problems with monitor).

Well that's interesting. I checked the list of updates I've got and it turns
out that the update you refer to is already installed. I must assume then
that the problem is indirectly related to audio, but the origin is different.
In fact I noticed that the web cam is also affected.
Thanks for the tip!

The other weird thing I found with Vista Updates is that the update for
application compatibility actually worked in reverse for me. After
installing it, all kinds of things stopped working including drivers for my
DVD drive (Sonic) and a few others. I uninstalled that update and all the
error warning messages went away. You might want to try and see if you have
that one installed - uninstall it and see if that helps as it seems to
affect some driver-level software. I think that update is a case of "your
mileage may vary", but if you weren't having any compatibility problems
before, you may not need it and it might be worth trying to uninstall it and
rebooting to see if that helps.

BTW - I heard that the sound problem you're experiencing after Sleep also
affect webcams, so it sounds like you have the "classic" symptoms of
whatever that problem is.

Good luck.

I have the same problem like Innossan. Reboot will always fix the problem but
that defeat the purpose of having standby/sleep/hibernate mode in my laptop.
My computer info:
HP Pavilion dv2000t laptop with Vista Home Premium, 2 Ghz CPU, 2 Gb RAM.

I'm not sure what is manufacture of the sound card. From device manager, it
only says HD Audio Device and the driver files:
drmk.sys, HdAudio.sys, portcls.sys, sysfxul.dll, wmalfxgfxdsp.dll
From HP website it says Conexant HD Audio Driver.

I have tried updating the sound driver from HP.com with no success.
I have tried download and install KB929685 from MSFT and it was stated that
my soundcard is not affected.
I have sent the notebook to HP twice. The first time they replaced the
speaker and the second time they replaced the hard drive and motherboard w/
the soundcard. And still I'm having the same issue. HP support said there is
nothing else they can do except waiting for MSFT to fix the driver issue with
VISTA.

It's very frustrating. I don't know what else to do other than disabling the
sleep/standy/hibernate mode on my laptop.

MSFT MVPs, please help!! or please report this major BUG to the proper
channel inside MSFT.

IMHO, there are so many others that are affected by this problem but they
just haven't noticed it yet especially if they have HP Pavilion DV model
Notebook.

Thanks,
CP

I forgot to add another BUG related with the sound or driver.

The first BUG.
Anytime I'm listening to a music on my laptop and if I want to mute or
control volume on the sound, I'll have to do it from the application itself
(for example: WM Player, Itunes, or Realplayer, etc.). The windows vista
volume control or mixer will not do anything to the sound going to the
internal speaker. I can slide it up and down and it won't affect the sound.
If I slide the volume on the application (WM Player or Itunes) and it will
affect the sound.

The Second BUG.
I have noticed that The Windows Vista volume control or mixer only works to
control external device (ext. speaker or headphones). I proved it by plug in
a headphone to my headphone output and I slide the Windows Vista volume down,
I can still hear the sound from the internal speaker of the laptop at a
normal level and hear sound very low on my headphone.

With that said, the last BUG is.
Usually when you plug in a speaker or headphone to your laptop you will not
going to hear a sound coming from the internal speaker. Guess what? I can
still hear it. I even try put my laptop to a docking station and have the
speaker plug in to the dock instead of the laptop and I will still
experiencing the same thing. The sound will comes out from both the external
speaker and the laptop.

Basically I can't bypass the sound coming out from my laptop speaker at all
no matter what I do. No more privacy for me on listening my music or watching
movies. :(

If anyone else is having the same problem and has some solutions.
Especially if you are using HP Pavilion DV2000t notebook.
Please let me know.

Thanks,
CP
