I just bought a Radeon 9800 Pro yesterday to replace my GeForcfe t.i.
4200. On 3D Mark 2001 I only get a score of 9985. I was getting a
score of about 8300 with my t.i. On 3D Mark 2003 I get a score of 5055
while I was getting about 1200 on my t.i. How come the performance
only slightly improved on 2001 but jumped way up on 2003? I don't see
much of a big improvement in many of the games I have either. Only
slightly better framerates than what I was getting with my t.i. The
weird thing is that it seems to run the higher quality games much
better. For instance the Far Cry Demo runs much better on the Radeon
where it wouldn't run worth a crap on the t.i. Any suggestions here on
what to do?

Your CPU is the limiting factor, its holding the video card back. 3dmark01
is more a whole system tester (ram, cpu, vid) whereas 03 is very much biased
towards the video card, hence the big jump in performance in that and not
2001. The 9800pro is also a DirectX9 card, your old Ti was only DX 8.1
(3dmark03 is a DX9 benchmark program)

Slow Slow CPU... P4s are slow until they reach about 2.4Ghz... But
the 3DMark2003 benchie is still decent.

You got an old game that the TI can do 100fps... what is another 20~50
or 100 fps on it?

P4 are quite slow performance wise. However P4Northwood, are fast and better
than p4. P4N starts at 2,53GHz, 533fsb.

Strange.. I got a northwood..of 2Ghz, with 512kb cache....

I think that you are wrong Darty, northwoods also have 400 FSB versions...
