Is there still a "Maximum (stable)" file size for PST files?

A while back, I was told that the maximum file size for a PST to remain
"stable" was 100 megs. After this, it was said, you might experience problems
with your .pst, not being able to open it, or delete items from it, etc.
Checking more recently, I found that it had moved up to 500 megs. Is this
still the case?

Well, I know for a fact where I work, we have 'Chiefs' who have PST files
over 1 GB. Ususally, we start seeing the problem for pst not being able to
open it, or delete items from it, etc at around 1.7 GBs....it especially gets
really slow to open.

I usually tell them not to exceed 650 MBs and to create a new one when 650
MBs is reached. I like the 650MBs cuz it's easy for backing up onto CD-Rs.

So from my experience, it could go over 1GB w/out issues, but I wouldn't
recommend anything over 650-which isnt a stability issue at all...IMO

Outlook 2003's default maximum for .pst and .ost files is 20GB. The new format is much more stable than the old.

Thank you
