Is there any way to import a picture into Powerpoint by reference

Is there a way to import pictures into PPT by reference? I want to be able to
modify the graphics and have them reflected in my ppt files automatically.
This way, if I have a bank of graphics, I can use them repeatedly, and
changes to one will be reflected in any ppt file that it is used.

Al ready done for you, sort of. You can elect to link an image instead of
embed it. Replace the linked image (keeping the same name) and the next
time you run the presentation you will be asked if you wish to update the
links. Click yes and your good to go.

Is this available in the 2003 version? When I say Insert->Picture, I don't
see an option to link it in. I usually choose From File. Should I be doing
this some other way? Thanks!

Choose From File and then browse to the picture. Click once on the
picture to select and look at the Insert button. You'll notice that you
can click on it or choose to pull down a little menu which gives you the
Link option.

Next to the Insert button there's a downward-pointing arrowhead. Click it and
all will be revealed.

Well. Not all. But at least a Link option, and that's what you're after.

Caution: the links are almost certain to break if you move the file elsewhere,
even if you move the linked graphics along with it.

You can use the free demo version of FixLinks to change the links to pathless
ones so they behave better in most cases. http://www.pptools.com/fixlinks/
