is there a way to smartly access folders?

Am I missing something, or wouldn't it be a fairly simple task for the OP to
simply conifgure WORD, EXCEL, whatever to simply default to the directory he
needs to acces for these files? I use a simple naming structure such as
/data/excel and /data/word for my files that makes it pretty easy to back
things up, since all my files fall under /data.

Since you are the man, I would greatly appreciate if you can make it from
5
to 10 to 20.

Thanks a lot and please help me...

That's not possible because Windows does not support more than five. It
has nothing to do with TweakUI, the Open/Save dialog is a
special window built into Windows and it only supports five (previous
versions of Windows didn't have it at all.) You can test this
by creating keys Place5, Place6, and so on, they have no effect.

Did you manage to fix your initial problem?

I've never noticed that. I agree it is silly, but then you just do
what
it does, but manually. (For the record, despite the length
restriction, I am elated to see that the TweakUI developer had the
presence of mind to use expandable strings instead of plain
strings.)

Here's a sample REG file you could use:

REGEDIT4
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\comdlg32\PlacesBar]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\comdlg32\PlacesBar]
;make a couple of simple paths
"Place0"="C:\Program Files\Some Company\Some Program\Some Thing"
"Place1"="D:\Foo\Bar\Baz"

Unless you tell me there is a way to do this easily...

The REG file is very easy.

I don't want to play with registry entries...

What the heck do you think TweakUI does?

It does not make any sense that UITWeak is so stupid and does not
allow
long paths...

Yes it does. Put in as long a path as you want (well, as long as the
file
system allows) in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th, boxes.
Only the first one is missing the flag that allows it to scroll,
allowing
you to enter a path longer than can be displayed. You can
still enter a long path in the first box though, this will work:
c:\iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii,
is that long enough for you? Would you like a
patch to fix the first box? I just made one in about 40 seconds.

And limit it to only 5 paths...

How many do you need? 1,000,000?

Apparently they need more than one.

Get the other tool mentioned above. If it's the one I've used, it's part of
the WOPR powerpack, and lets you create NINE custom locations. I've never
run into a path-length limitation, but my places aren't very far away.

You mean the Office 2000 Places thingy?

If so, then it actually lets you have 10, but in small icon mode. Also, it requires an Office app to configure.

Interesting, TweakUI does not support putting it in small icon mode (nor do any other such apps). I'll have to look into this.

Plus, it doesn't seem to work for other apps or the OS, it looks like it's just for Office apps.
