Is there a download that allows old versions of word to read 2007

I have been told that users of older versions of word can download a "reader"
that allows them to read documents made in word 2007. Is this true and where
is it located.

I have a very different question. I'm operating in Word 2002. But I have
some old Word 6.0 docs on my hard drive. When I'm revising one of them and
try to "Save,"
I get a prompt to the effect that the document is being "Converted" as it's
being saved.

Question: Is there any way to convert 6.0 docs permanently to 2002 docs, so
as to do away with this prompt on my screen each time I save?

Save them as Word 2007 document. Currently they appear to be being saved as
RTF, the Word 6 document format, hence the conversion.

How do you convert old Word 6.0 docs to Word 2002 docs? So you don't get a
prompt when you modify a 6.0 doc that it needs to be converted?

Use File | Save As and choose Word Document (which will be the Word 97-2003
file format).

Save it as "Word Document." Or, does the prompt ask if you want to convert
it? If so, say yes.

Ah! The eyes are not what they were :( - in that case as you suggested -
Save as the native Word document format and not the Word 6/RTF format.
