is the info in AD or Exchange?

Hi,

Is the existence and location of mailboxes kept in AD or in Exchange?
So if, for example a user's mailbox location was changed and then
Exchange restored with a backup done before the move - will it work?
Will the mailbox be moved back to the old location or will the restore
fail?

Thanks,

Peter

The homeMDB attribute in AD shows the location of the mailbox. Your
backup program will take care of the particulars.

An Exchange restore would indeed restore the old mailbox. However, nothing
would point to it because the restore wouldn't update AD. When you run the
Mailbox Cleanup Agent, I believe the mailbox would show up with a red X.

I dunno. I haven't tried it. The problem might be that the red X
doesn't show up because there's a match on the legacyExchangeDN name
in the database and the AD but mail isn't delivered because the
msExchangeHomeServerName or homeMDB attributes aren't right.

Thanks, guys. I am going to try this within the next two weeks. I will
post the results.
