Is Microsoft Office included in Microsoft XP Professional? Unfortunately, I
ended up with a computer with Microsoft XP Professional and Open Office
Suite! Open Office Suite is HORRIBLE!!!! I bought a new Windows Microsoft
XP operating system but it doesn't seem to have Office. =( Can anyone help
me out? I'd hate to think I just spent $80 on something I can't even use.

No Microsoft Office is not included with Windows XP. If you want MS
Office you have to purchase it separately.

Microsoft Office has never been a part of any Microsoft operating system..

No. No version of Office has ever been included with *any* version of
Windows.

Windows is an operating system, and does not come with any application
software except a very few relatively simplistic ones like Notepad and
Paint.

Microsoft Office is commercial software, for sale separately. If you
want it, you need to buy it.

Unfortunately, I

Suite! Open Office Suite is HORRIBLE!!!!

Many people disagree with your assessment of OpenOffice, but how you
like it is your choice.

I bought a new Windows Microsoft
XP operating system but it doesn't seem to have Office.

Right. It never does.

=( Can anyone help
me out? I'd hate to think I just spent $80 on something I can't even use.

That last sentence is completely wrong. Windows and Office are two
entirely separate products, and one never comes with the other. What
you are saying here is like saying "I bought a new dictionary, but it
doesn't seem to have a road atlas. I'd hate to think I just spent $20
on something I can't even use."

You may have previously had the experience of buying an OEM computer
that came with both some version of Windows and some version of Office
installed. That may be so, but it doesn't change the fact that no
version of Windows comes with Office. It was simply that the vendor
you bought it from bundled Office into the package he sold you.

If you paid $80 for Open Office, get your money back immediately. It's a
free program. The current version of Open Office is 3.1, and it is a
suite, just like Microsoft Office only free. See www.openoffice.org for
details if you wish. Open Office, especially the latest version, is an
excellent replacement for the Microsoft Office suite. And with the
exception of "x" files (docx, etc) reads and writes almost all Microsoft
files with ease. Get your money back if you paid for it, and go
download the actual program at openoffice.org if you're interested in
saving money on the purchase of Microsoft Office.

Just giving you a second persons information:
As Twayne stated Open office is a FREE propgram downloadable online. If you
paid anyone for it try to get your money back.
MS office is a program you buy at anywhere from $80 for student edition to
hundreds of dollars for a business veresion. For what you probbly need you
will find the lower cost versions adequate.
Open office is not horrible but rather a very good office substitute, and
FREE.

Microsoft Office is a group of applications. XP is an operating system. 2
different animals. No, Office is not included in XP retail or XP generic
OEM installations.

You can also purchase each Office application entity separately. May be
economically appropriate if you only need one or two of them.

Each version of Office and apps have critical updates for security reasons.
Some are quite large if you're on dial-up.

Did I say that? No, I didn't. I said "If ... " . You need help with
both reading comprehension and interpersonal skills.

Why not just answer the question that is asked idiot?!?!?!?

As far as I am concerned it is a waste of time to ask anything here
because very seldom does anyone just answer the question asked as it
is asked.

The sentence above is using "drivel" as a noun, implies an insult at the
very least.
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/drivel

And since its one sentence and does not address the previous reply's sound
argument in any shape, manner or form, I contend that the subsequent reply
is actually "drivel" instead. And wasted everyone's time in the entire
universe and alternate universes who read that reply.

Further, the previous replier is incapable of making a sound argument in my
opinion. Rather, exuding insults instead, in my opinion.

Because sometimes going further than merely what is explicitly asked can be
extremely helpful, that's why.

In this case, the answer to the question as posed is "No". However, *if* a
little digging had yielded that part of the OP's $80 had been for Open
Office, she would then have *known* that she had grounds for redress from
the seller, if she wanted. It was worth mentioning. You said, "He did not
say he paid for Open Office" - but it wasn't entirely clear exactly what the
money *was* for - the computer, the operating system, or what. Worth
digging; not worth your little rant and name-calling.

If someone posted a string of symptoms almost certainly caused by malware
and asked directly how to fix each of them, would you *just* try to post
back a list of individual fixes for the pop-ups, slowness, non-functioning
programs, etc (being "the question asked as it is asked")? Or would you take
a step back from the poster's assumptions and suggest that in fact they
should also ensure they have adequate security in place once everything's
cleaned up?
As far as I am concerned it is a waste of time to ask anything here
because very seldom does anyone just answer the question asked as it
is asked.

There were six replies which directly answered the actual question the OP
asked. Add that to your statistical tallying (and don't forget to include
*on the opposite side of the balance* your own two contributions).

Oh, and if you're going to make an assumption about the gender of someone
posting under the name "Missy", why would you assume they were male?

Well if the OP paid only $80 for XP Professional then please can he tell
us where he got it?

He said he'd paid $80 for something HE CAN'T USE! Presumably Windows XP
Professional is NOT "something he can't use". Idiot.

Err why can't you "use" Open Office? It's perfectly usable and is at
least as good (version 3.1) as MS Office 2003.....
