Is it safe to remove screen saver activation program from registry?

Y

Yves Thomas

Am trying to disable this program (ActivateSS.exe) that my former
employer had automatically installed onto my laptop when I had access
to their intranet.

It's a screen saver activation program that I am not able to turn off
since the screen saver drop-down menu in Display Properties is grayed
out. (I suspect that ActivateSS.exe has something to do with this.)

For some reason the ActivateSS.exe program is not listed in
"Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel -- although it's located in
a directory tree under C:\Program Files -- thus I don't know if it's
safe to simply delete that subtree. Is it?

When I did a search for ActivateSS.exe in the registry, it showed up
under the following tree.

There are 11 entries there (all of type REG_SZ), one of which has
ActivateSS.exe as Data value.

My question is: can I simply delete this particular entry from the
registry?

Thanks in advance.

That's you searching for it, the system remembers it for the history.

ActivateSS.exe is not part of MY Windows 2000. As for screen saver not
configurable, I suggest scanning the policy.
