Is it safe to delete files in the Temp folder?

B

Bill & Debbie

The size of my IBM_PRELOAD (C:) temp folder is about 1 gig in size. I have
looked at the files in this folder and none of them have been updated in the
past two years. So, my question is: Would it be safe to delete the files
in the temp folder to give me more disk space?

Thanks in advance for any advice,
Bill

Feel free to delete anything in a temp folder. Reboot just before doing it,
just to make sure you won't get a "file is in use" error by a program that
forgot to release the file.

Also think about using Disk Clean up. It's in the start menu under System
Tools. Or you can run it by puting this in the Run.. box:

cleanmgr

Good luck,

Probably. If possible, delete them to the RECYCLE BIN, from which they can
be restored if necessary.
Then, if no problems after a suitable amount of time, delete them
permanently to recover space.

Hi,

Are you 100% positive that these files are not needed to reload your system
in the event that you need to recover the system with the manufacturer's
recovery system? If this were the C:\Windows\Temp or %userprofile%\local
settings\temp folder I would say that yes they are safe to delete, but from
the way you have stated it, it sounds more like this is part of the
manufacturer's recovery set.

All files in temp/tmp are safe to delete.
