Is it possible to view my camcorder output on my laptop

Hi

I have just purchased a Canon HG10 HD camcorder, and would like to
view its live ouput directly on my laptop which is a Compaq 8510p
(HP).

My canon has HDMI support and so does my laptop. Is it possible to
connect the two through HDMI? I think my HDMI on the laptop is only
for output, but is that a hardware limitation or software?

What other options do I have? Can I buy a thrid party hardware thingy
that enables this, such as a tuner for the laptop?

What my real aim is, is to use my camcorder as a webcam. But as far as
I can see, first step would be to view the output live on the laptop.

I would be very thankful for any help I can get here

Read the manual for the camcorder, it's features determine what is possible,
not Vista.
