Is it possible to offer remote assistance with XP Home?

It would be a for a novice pc user and I would like to try to avoid having to
walk them through port forwarding on their router.

Any suggestions? Are there any 3rd party softwares that configure port
forwarding on routers with the persons private ip for remote assistance?

The offer functionality only works in a domain environment which pretty much
excludes XP Home to start with. If the persons router is UPnP capable then
the required connection ports should get opened...

On a local network, ie. LAN, or through a VPN tunnel this method works...
