Is it ok to keep windows firewall switched on as well as sygate?

Hi

I have just installed sygate and would like to know if you would advise to
keep windows xp's firewall on or off? I have spent all day messing around
with my pc due to some nasty viruses and I don't want to make any more
mistakes.

Thanks for all your help on this forum.

Hi

I run ZAP and have turned the XP Firewall off. Running 2 apps. of the same
kind at the same time 'could' cause conflicts.

ZAP (Zone Alarm) is supposed to turn off SP2 firewall.

It is not recommended to have two software firewalls active.

Hi Yves

ZAP does not turn off the SP2 Firewall - at least it hasn't done here on 3
machines and 6 different partitions.

Which version are you using? ZAP and ZA free (latest 5.XXXX)
definitely turn off the SP2 firewall on every machine that I've
installed them on.

ZAP 5.5.062.004

Same here. Don't know why it isn't turning off the SP2 firewall for
you???
Hi

No idea why the difference between our 2 systems, but the SP2 Firewall stays
enabled here - even after a reboot and a cold start.

Good third party firewalls usually disable the Windows one as they
initialise: let it do so, there is no point in having the job done twice
over
