IS FIREWALL OFF OR NOT???

Hi Everyone,

I have a DELL Latitude D620 Core2Duo w/2 gig RAM 250 nVidia dedicated video,
160 Mb 5200 rpm HD Intel 3945 wireless a/b/g w/XP SP2 up to date.

I'm testing out Verizon's USB 2.0 broadband card and tolerating the 400-700
kbps speeds :(). One way to increase speed acc to Verizon tech is by
shutting off Firewall. I have done that in the control panel Security
Center, but the main window still shows it ON in green while the subwindow
shows OFF (not recommended) selected. Is there another way to verify if it
is indeed OFF??

THANKS!

Do you have two firewalls? Windows and another like Norton etc? If that's
the case, turn off Windows Firewall and let the other do the work.

Hello

You can test if you're firewall is active by pinging you computer. If you
get an answer the firewall is turned off...

The easiest way to turn off your Windows firewall is to shutdown the service
"Windows Firewall"...

firewall.cpl is the Windows Firewall Control Panel.

Start | Run | Type: firewall.cpl | Click OK |
If the On (Recommended) is selected, it's ON.
