is AVG a good virus scanner for XP Home?

Ron - I saw something similar on one computer that I upgraded. Now I'm
wondering if AdAware6 just sucked, or AdAwareSE has (perhaps
unreasonably) broadened the definition of "adware" to look better. I
mean, I never had any problems on a machine that was AdAware6 clean, why
didn't those 100-200 additional items hurt me?

Maybe they were, and you were just not aware of it. If they were not
heavily loading the CPU or tieing up the Internet connection with
their "phone home" traffic you might not notice them.

I am not impressed with Etrust - their tech support is hard to get
answers out of, and when I finally pressed them, they said that Trojans
were like Adware and out of the scope of their product!
