Is Adaptec SATAConnect 1205SA hot swap compatible

I've got an Adaptec SATAConnect 1205SA PCI SATA controller and couple
of 300GB drive inside Promise SuperSwap 1100's enclosures with the
intention of using them as a low cost backup system.

For some reason I cannot hot swap the drives. The SuperSwaps are 100%
hot swap compatible but I'm not sure about the Adaptec controller.

Should I be able to hot swap with this controller with the drivers
provided (1.0.0.41)? If not, is there an updated driver or third party
driver I could use? Or do I need to get a different controller?

Which should be rather obvious:

How can the SuperSwaps be 100% hot swap compatible if
they have nothing to say about the controller's behaviour.

Doesn't Promise offer driver extensions for the SuperSwaps?
Given the info in above link they probably only work with Promise
RAID controllers.
Should I be able to hot swap with this controller with the drivers

Of course not. It isn't even a Promise clone.
If not, is there an updated driver or third party driver I could use?
Or do I need to get a different controller?

Yup, obviously.

You might be overlooking a third potential problem: The drivers and
OS also has to support the hot swap. Linux for example does
not at this time.

1205SA is not a RAID controller. Hotswap is meaningful only in RAID.

Not so. It is also "meaningful" if you want to remove the disk without
shutting down the machine, which you might want to do if you are using the
disk for backup or to transport data or for forensic work.

Huh? Since when? O.k., to be exact it is called hot-plug sometimes
if it is not RAID, but you should be able to remove and insert a
SATA disk (when the system supports hot-swap for SATA) just like
you do with an USB-attached disk.
