Hi,

Computer started BSOD at start up with the above error (and sometimes no
error reported in the BSOD). Googling implied it's a hardware or driver
issue. Disconnected all unnecessary hardware, reseated and MEMTESTED RAM
but still the same. Booted from XP CD and ran the repair install but at
the first reboot I get the BSOD again.

Is there a way to force the repair install to run clean using only
drivers from the CD? (other than a reformat!). Suspect it could be
video or firewall driver blowing up.

Could I boot from a CD based OS and delete driver files off the C Drive?

Thanks

Can you press F8 and get successfully into Safe Mode?

If so, can you also select VGA Mode? And if you can, does it then run
stably? VGA mode uses another video driver, so from this, you should be
able to tell if the culprit is the video.

Also, there should be some more text from the bluescreen that refers to a
specific file, and that may help you identify the problem.

Can you post the full particulars of the BSOD, including the STOP
code, all 4 parameter values, and any file or module names mentioned?
That may help pinpoint the culprit.

Good luck

I was able to get the F8 menu but still BSOD whatever option. Now
successfully booting to desktop after running install from the Windows
XP CD and forcing an ACPI HAL (F5 when the SCSI driver prompt appears)
so looks like some problem with ID of motherboard (ASROCK 775DUALVSTA).
Windows Update now doesn't work but that's a new problem...
