IrfanView - no EXIF Image Description?

T

Terry Pinnell

Am I just not looking in the right place? In IrfanView's EXIF fields I
can't find what I'd understood was a 'standard' one, Image
Description?

BTW, those codes that IrfanView > Help lists for EXIF and IPTC, like
$I120 for IPTC Caption and $E36867 for EXIF DateTimeOriginal etc, are
they unique to IrfanView? I'd always assumed they were some sort of
'universal' standard, used by various programs, but it seems I'm
wrong.

The Help file states the info is from IPTC and EXIF specifications.

A cursory review of the EXIF 2.2 Specification by JEITA, April 2002.
at <http://www.exif.org/specifications.html> supports Irfan's
documentation. For example the "$E36867" mentioned above:

Field Name - DateTimeOriginal

I am impressed! It seems that you must know of what you say. Well done!

How odd! That first line is missing here:
http://www.terrypin.dial.pipex.com/Images/EXIF1.jpg

I couldn't find anything under Options > Properties which might affect
this. And I wouldn't have thought it was camera dependent? Any other
ideas please?
