IrDA flagged in device manager

I have the yellow exclamation mark next to an infrared device on COM3. I uninstall and reinstall and the exclamation mark always returns. Right click and properties tells me that windows has disconnected this device (Code 43). The computer is a Sony PCV-RZ14G. I also sometimes get an icon in the taskbar for SIRC.

Any ideas? Thanks!
