ipconfig /displaydns interpretation

F

Fred Marshall

Windows XP:
I see a lot of results using displaydns (see below).
None of them seem to be useful. I'd like to get rid of them.
ipconfig /flushdns has no affect.
I can't find reference to any of them inside files or in the Registry.
Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D are up-to-date and scans find nothing.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Fred

ipconfig /displaydns

The reason /flushdns isn't clearing them is that these have come from your
hosts file.

You have installed a hosts file that is blocking these sites by
re-directing them to a non-existent webserver ( your own pc, 127.0.0.1 ).

When you flush the DNS cache, after flushing, it re-reads the hosts file
into the cache.
