You didnt' say your network was running, nor did you report what
ipconfig actually returned (if anything).

1. try runing ipconfig /? to prove that the executable file is not
corrupted or something. If it works, then see 2. If it does not work,
then I guess you can do a repair install of XP to add back in the right
version of this file.
2. maybe the id you are running it under does not have sufficient
permissions to run the program.

I am administrator on the computer. The network is working well without
any problems for 1 year. I am using Static IP number. I can change it
without any problems but only IPconfig is not showing the configuration.


When I run ipconfig I get only

Dmac suggest "ipconfig /renew". Try it and report results.

Since you get this output, I'm going to assuem that the file
ipconfig.exe is not corrupted and you don't have to try changing it.

Interestingly, it seems to stop at the stage where ipconfig is supposed
to present information about the lan connector(s). see if the
windows-based networking information programs work ok.

Also, I notice I don't see "DNS Suffix Search LIst" when I run "ipconfig
/all".

What does a scan with a current antivirus program (meaning a version not
earlier than 2002 and using updated virus definitions) show? Perhaps
your computer has been hijacked/zombie-fied and is busy running a
trojan.

/renew option is only if you use DHCP, and I have static IP number.

After "ipconfig /renew":
Windows IP Configuration

The operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for
this operation.

I ran across, and of course lost the link, on google stating that a
reinstall of NIC sometimes fixes this. the poster in that link had an
operational network with ipconfig acting similar to yours. Have you tried
reinstalling the NIC yet?
