IP Range Change and DHCP

T

Tom Jarvis

Hi All,

Forgive me if this is posted in the wrong section.

Im after some advice:
Over the coming months, I need to move the site for which
I am responsible over to a new IP address range. In
addition to which I also need to move from a Windows NT4
DHCP server to a pair of Active Directory Domain
controllers running DHCP balanced between them. The
question is a chicken or egg one, where which activity is
best to do first, or whether to do them both at the same
time?

Do I migrate DHCP onto the new servers, and then implement
a new IP range?

Do I move to the new IP range, and then migrate DHCP?

Do I just give up and go home ?

If anyone has any experience of doing the above (apart
from the going home bit!), some feedback would be most
appreciated.

TIA

Tom

IMHO, keeping network users working is priority one. Set up your DHCP
server(s) with the new range(s), work out any kinks and get them working on
the NT4 box or the Win2k boxes. Then work on getting your site to AD, it
will easy then to throw in the new DNS setting for the AD DNS.
