IP Protocol 47

How can I determine that IP Protocol 47 is not blocked between the client
and the server. What does (GRE) stand for?

I am trying to connect between a Win2000 server and an XP Pro client both
behind linksys routers. I have remoting services turned on but with no luck.
I am trying to connect to the linkysy router IP address and forward that to
192.168.1.101 the IP address of the server using port 1723.

What other variables am I missing?

Any help would be appreciated. I am new at this.

Thanks,
Terry

GRE stands for Generic Routing Encapsulation.
Make sure your router supports VPN tunneling and PPTP pass through. (check
manual)

You can look at the router's filter setup and look for GRE by name or by
protocol number[47]. Or check the router manufacturer's site for info on how
to allow GRE.
