IP controller issue

My connection to broadband over a router is not working on my XP machine. The
network connection shows it as enabled, but running ipconfig returns an error
"request not compatible". Trying to ping any address returns the error
"cannot find IP controller, error code 2". Tried reinstalling tcp/ip with
netsh but didn't work. Also tried winsockxpfix and it didn't work. tcpip is
set to obtain IP & DNS automatically. A laptop connected wireless to the same
router works fine. Even bought a new network card for the desktop and still
get same error.

Not sure where to go next! Any help will be appreciated!

Run lspfix http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm and report as to whether
mswsock.dll, winrnr.dll and rsvpsp.dll appear in the "Keep" window. My guess
is that one of these 3 has been deleted or hijacked. Also do you have any
additional files appearing in the "Keep" window?

Hi Jonah,

Thanks for the reply. I got this pgm and ran it on the desktop. All three of
the files you mention appeared on the "keep" window (mswsock.dll, winmr.dll,
rsvpsp.dll). It also showed a fourth file with name nwprovau.dll. The utility
apparently did nothing so the problem persists (I did not tinker with the "I
know what I am doing" capabilities!)

Hope this can make us go somewhere...

Then, download "Winsockxpfix.exe" from the same place as LSPFix. This
should reset the TCP/IP stack back to MS defaults.
