IP Address 0.0.0.0

I recently had to restore factory defaults for a home computer (Windows XP
Home Edition). Now, my IP address only reads 0.0.0.0 I have tried several
things including ipconfig, ipconfig renew, changing Networking Settings,
re-installing router software, etc. I have tried searching the Microsoft
Knowledge base....found some articles, but none seemed to fix the problem.
Linksys has even tried to fix my problem (through their online Networking
tools.....) I can't ping it, because there is no IP address. Does anyone
have any suggestions?

I would appreciate any help!

Thanks!
Michelle

Try connecting it to a network and verify link lights on both the NIC and the Linksys.

Try statically setting the IP address to the same subnet as the Linksys.

Have you checked this?

My guess is bad network drivers. You can start with updating or reinstalling
your NIC drivers or try plugging your NIC to a different slot and then
reinstall drivers.

Try pinging 127.0.0.1

If the reply is 0 bytes that means there could be a chance of bad NIC
drivers or corruptted TCP/IP Protocol files or like that. Try the above
mention procedure.

Hope this help, let us know!

Hi Michelle,

If your router is working, then the problem could be that you are not
set to dynamically recieve a IP from the router's DHCP server.

If that is the case, you can;

Go to a CMD prompt

from command prompt type

netsh

You will then get the netsh prompt. at that prompt type

interface ip

You will then get the 'netsh interface ip' prompt. At that prompt, type

set address name="Wireless Network Connection" source=dhcp

then type

quit

At this point you should then see the network icon in your SysTray
reset itself and you will then have a network connection.
