Interpreting Task Manager

Jose

The reason I ask is that I often shutdown Firefox with End Process so
that the next time I start it the same tabs will be open. I am
wondering what would change if I used End Process Tree.

Here is one answer of many found with a Google search for: end
process tree

Can you explain in more detail why you kill (not the same as shutdown)
Firefox in Task Manager - on purpose?

With XP-Pro Task Manager

The right click menu includes the options:

1) End Process

2) End Process Tree

What is the difference?

Because if I want to shut down the computer for the night and start
again tomorrows, Firefox will start by offering the option of starting
up with the same web pages in its tabs as when it was killed.

There are other reasons to stop/start a Firefox set of tabs
temporarily -- like to install another program.

Stan,
If you want to find out which processes will also be terminated if
you choose the 'end process tree' option, then download the [free] program
Process Explorer. If functions just like Task Manager (because it IS by a
division of Microsoft) and can be configured to replace it. The difference
is in how much more detail there is, and you can see at a glance what other
process / dlls / services / TCP/IP connections will also perish with
Firefox's 'tree'.

Process Explorer available from:
