Internet Time tab greyed out - services?

Uffe

I recently disabled/changed to manual several WinXP services in order to
make the system run smoother.
When making those changes I closely followed Blackviper's recommendations on
XP services, but I did not disable the time service, nor the vital RPC
service (of course).

The system has been starting up and running great with more free resources
than before, but yesterday I noticed I could not make the Internet time
synchronise, getting an error message saying the RPC Server being
unavailable when trying to update the time. At this stage the Internet Time
tab was not greyed out yet and the systray clock OK. Only time
synchronisation did not work.
Obviously I must have disabled/changed to manual some service(s) too many.

The same issue is addressed on following web page:
http://www.mcse.ms/archive55-2004-3-475242.html

In my desperation to fix the problem I was stupid enough to try the 'fix'
posted by 'time_problems' at the bottom of a.m. page.

That attempt ended in a DOS box message stating that w32time or something
similar has been deleted. Since then the Internet Time tab has been greyed
out inaccessable. The systray clock is working though.
The file 'w32tm.exe' is still present in C:\Windows\system32. The clock in
systray is OK, too.

Would be grateful for advice on how to get my Internet time working again.
What services must run for Internet Time to work?
My system runs great otherwhise, and I would not like to reinstall my XP
Home edition SP2 and all the Hotfixes.

TIA

Thanks Delbert,

Applied your syntax 'NET TIME etc.' and my Internet Time tab is not greyed
out anymore. However, when I try to update time from the internet time
server I'm still getting that error 'An error occurred getting the status of
the last synchronisation. The RPC server is unavailable.' I guess I have to
dig deep into that MS-link you provided to find the rest of the solution,
unless there is a shorter way to fix it.
