Internet Options

I'm not much on the computer thing, but why wouldn't I be
able to remove the history of visited sites? I went to
internet options, clicked "clear history". Now,
everything was cleared from my drop down box, but when I
started typing in web sites, the addresses from
previously visited sites were shown as I typed in the web
address.

How can I remove this stuff.

You need to go into internet options under the content tab
and you need to turn auto-complete off. The website will
no longer pop up when you begin to type.

Autocomplete works off the index.dat file in Windows\History. You'll have to delete it from DOS to reset it:

Win9x only-
Boot to DOS
Go to C:\Windows
type -- smartdrv -- <enter> - gets rid of all that disk thrashing
type -- deltree history -- <enter and y to verify> - to clear History
type -- deltree tempor~1 -- <enter and y to verify> - to clear TIF - while you're at it
Reboot

Windows 2000/XP - log on as Administrator, go to the profile in question using Windows Explorer and manually delete the History folder.
