Internet not connecting

I purchased a compaq presario PC with Vista Home edition installed on it last
week.
I had to install a usb wireless internet connector. It connected to the net
for the first week but now refuses to do so. it has the icon in the bottom
right corner with the two computers with a cross, but when you click it and
hover above the internet connection it says it is connected, but when you
click on it it tells me that it isnt connected. i try to connect but then it
tells me it cant because of an 'unknown error'. The adaptor is working and it
tells me there is a wireless connection available but it won't let me connect.

does anyone know what it is and if so, how to help me?

Thank you!

I had a similar problem...It's a windows vista issue...I could connect to
local network but not the internet.

The issue is caused by a lack of a correct association on the SonicWALL
between the computer running Windows Vista and its assigned IP address.
Follow these steps to work around the issue by editing the System Registry:

Click the Start button.
Select All Programs > Accessories.
Right click Command Prompt and click Run as administrator.
Type regedit.exe and press enter.
Go to the following location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
Right click this entry and select New Dword.
Rename the new entry ArpRetryCount (leave it set to 0 by default).
Restart the computer.
Reassociate with the SonicWALL. You should notice a successful connection.
