I have connected my laptop(XP home) to my pc(xp pro). using network wizard on
both and allowing my internet cnonection to be shared through my network port.

I can browse my sharded folders on both pc's and can ping both ip addresses.
in network connections the internet gate way is connected however i cant
access the web!!! I have tried pinging a www. address but no reply.

I have chaneged the connection settings in explorer to manual settings of
the host pc ip address and also tried just the pc name.

Any ideas guys???

Many www addresses (such as those at microsoft.com) don't respond to
pings and will always time out.

Which computer is sharing its Internet connection -- the laptop or the
PC? Which computer is having trouble accessing the Internet?

What IP addresses do the computers have? With Internet Connection
Sharing enabled, the host's LAN connection should have 192.168.0.1,
and the client's LAN connection should have a different 192.168.0.x
address.

Try disabling ICS on the host, then re-enabling ICS. Then, configure
the client to obtain an IP address automatically, disable the client's
LAN connection, and re-enable the client's LAN connection to see if
it fixes the problem.

If you use manual connection settings on the client, they should be:

IP Address: 192.168.0.x (1<x<255)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS Server = 192.168.0.1 or your ISP's DNS server address.
