Internet Favorites PROBLEM!

Help!!
In my internet favorites folder there is an item for literally ALL the
program files on my computer. I can't delete them from the favorites folder
and I don't know how they got there.
I don't know if this is making sense... bottom line: I have a lot of items
in my favorites folder that make it completely unusable since it takes
forever to load, and I want ONLY .url links to appear in my favorites. I
tried to organize the favorites, but because there are SO many items in the
folder, my computer always says there is an error as soon as I try to delete
a specific item.
Is there any way to just delete all the favorites and start with a fresh,
empty favorites folder?
Would re-installing internet explorer correct the problem? And if so, how do
I go about re-installing it? (The program does not show up on my applications
recovery cds).
I'd appreciate ANY help that I can get!! Thanks in advance!

What do you mean you "can't delete them from the favorites folder"? What
happens when you try? Go to My Computer and double-click on your C:
drive (if C: is the Windows drive - if you have Windows on a different
drive, double-click that one). Do you see an entry for Program Files
there? If so, when you double-click that folder, do you see all your
various programs' folders?

I can't delete them, meaning, when I try, the program tells me that there was
an error and it stops responding. When I click on "my computer" --> C drive,
--> program files, the correct number of items are there. It is only in my
favorites that hundreds of files show up, none of which are internet explorer
pages, they are folders to programs on my computer. For example, my screen
saver options come up in my favorites folder. I didn't put them there, but
when I try to delete them from the favorites folder, the program stops
responding.

I cannot help with your main problem e.g. favorites folder loaded with
files. I would guess that they are all shortcuts to files located elsewhere
and when selecting one or all for deletion the machine wants to open one of
the files and "freezes". One way by which this happens is when multiple
files are being selected and/or copied and end up in the wrong target
folder.

OK, try right-clicking on one of the items in your Favorites folder.
Left-click on Properties. Are these items shortcuts? I just want to
make very sure they *are* just shortcuts and not the files themselves.
If they are shortcuts, then use the right-click on them and then
left-click on "Delete". Does that work?

How do I know if they are shortcuts? I did what you recommended. For example,
One of the files was named Assembly. The file type: Folder Stored in
Location: C:/Windows, Size: 277 bytes. Size on Disk: 4.00 KB. Is this a
shortcut or no?
I really appreciate your help!! Thank you so much for taking the time to
look at this. I've asked so many of my friends and they don't have a clue, so
your help is invaluable.
Thanks!

If the item is a shortcut, it will say that it is a shortcut in the
Properties. There will be an entry showing where the Target file is.

Ok I don't think that they're shortcuts. Does this mean that if I delete
them, I am going to delete a file that's important in the functioning of my
computer?
