If I'm on a webpage, right click a link and select open in new window, the
new window always opens as a small screen rather then maximzed.

How do I get the new window to open maximized or at least taking up the full
screen?

There is a free utility called the IE Windows maximizer
go to this link download and install it, it is great and
you can customize how and what it will or will not
maximize. Oh and of course it's free.

Open a window like that, grab the edges with the mouse and drag to the
largest size you can, just don't use the maximize button, then use File
| close to close it. The next window should remember the setting. Pop
up windows in IE can reset it though so the next one keeps the same size
as the pop up, so you might have to reset it occasionally.

I've tried that, but for whatever reason it doesn't work. Always seems to
open a lot smaller.

Stretch the window to the size you want, hold down shift and close by using
the X in the top right hand corner and then immediately open again.

I don't know what to tell you, other than try the utility Richie
mentioned, IE Maximizer at http://www.jiisoft.com/iemaximizer/

The settings are stored in the users profile. Profile may have a
problem. You could try adding another profile/user to the PC and see if
that resolves the issue.
