Internet Explorer wont close down

Can anybody please enlighten me.
When I click on the little X on a maximised page to close
a page down, it just makes a noise but doesnt close the
page down.
I can then load another page, but also cannot close that
page down either

Hi,
This is probably being caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware,
parasite)

Work through the solutions (CWShredder, Ad-aware, Spybot) at

Or...
A legitimate program running in the background may be causing this. Disable
(for diagnostic purposes) programs such as pop-up blockers, toolbars,
security, anti-virus, etc. You may have to reinstall, or not reinstall, a
program.
