Can you browse to various sites and view their pages? What happens when you
click on a file or graphic to download it? For instance, if you go to
www.cnn.com and click on one of their stories, do you go to the story page
or not? If you open Windows Media Player and try to download a sample mp3
file, what happens?

To Whom It May Concern:

I am having the same problem with two sites I could
access prior to installing windows XP2 and now I can't
restore my system to before then.

Is there anywhere I can download and install a clean
version of windows I.E. 6.02, which I believe is the
latest version?

I'm also having this problem with a machine running Win 2K and Internet
Explorer 6. Has anyone come up with a solution yet? It just all of sudden
happened and unfortunately the machine is 5 hours drive from me. Can't just
pop over and look at it. Troubleshooting over the phone just isn't an easy
thing to do.

Had that problem although my problem related to a specific page
(www.amazon.com and all sister pages that contained www.amazon). I posted
several questions on the subject in this and other newsgroups without
solving the mystery. I tried all the MS KB solutions, tried disabling AVP
and malware programs, tried sun java, tried shutting down all other running
programs, ran sfc \ scannow all without any success. In the end I bit the
bullet and formatted my C: drive, and reinstalled WINXP Pro SP2 from a 'slip
streamed' disk and all is now working OK.

My big mistake was while I image my HDD weekly, I only retain two images on
my external USB HDD and both my images were similarly corrupted. I have now
burned a 'basic' installation onto a DVD so it will be far less time
consuming to restore the system should the same thing happen again. You
live and learn :).
