I have just had my computer re-formatted after a virus, however since
then I am having trouble with Internet Explorer 6 when I go to certain
web-sites that used to be fine. When this happens I get a message
saying MSIE has problems and needs to shut down. These sites include:
pricerunner, moneyfacts - savings link and Argos.co.uk
The report is as follows:
Error signature :AppName: iexplore.exe
AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106
ModName: flash.ocx
ModVer: 6.0.22.0 Offset: 00058561

Any help very much appreciated.

Thanks for your reply

I am a little confused as this happened just after my whole computer
was re-formatted to get rid of malware so I don't see how it could be.
Also the person who made my computer and re-formatted it gave me this
reply to the query:

"Flash is a plugin so you probably need to update yours at
macromedia.com"

I didn't find this very enlightening which is why I posted the same
question to this group.

Could it be to do with needing to install the newest Flash player?

Does the Flash plug-in come as part of MSIE as I can't find it as a
seperate program on my computer?

Could the person who fixed my computer be trying to cover-up that he
gave the computer back to me with malware on it?

Any help most gratefully appreciated

First I would go to Tools | Internet Options | Advanced and uncheck Enable
third-party browser enhancements.

If that fixes it go to C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files and delete
Flash.ocx. If you really want to see Flash objects, then go back and enable
browser enhancements and then go to the macromedia site and download the
latest Flash.

Thanks again for your reply.

I tried to uncheck "Enable third-party browser enhancements" but the
closest I could find to this was "Enable third-party browser
extensions" which I assumed was what you meant and I unchecked this.

However this made no difference. Also I have no Flash.ocx file in
C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files as far as I can tell. I say this
becasue although the folder's properties says it contains 2 files I
can't see any when I open it. Also searching for Flash.ocx shows a file
with this name it to be in C:\WIndows\system32\Macromed\Flash.

I tried your link to download the lastest version of
Flash but I don't think it worked despite the webpage saying it had.
The reason I say this is because:
No movie played as the webpage said it would after installation.
I'm on a 56K dial-up and it said should take a few minutes but it took
seconds and no file transfer window came-up.
When I went to a Flash site it said I didn't have the latest version so
wouldn't play its Flash movie.

Thanks again
