Internet Explorer messed up - Help

S

Sam Learner

Hello everyone,
I am experiencing a problem with Internet Explorer on Windows XP Pro with
SP2

The problem started when my Symantec Antivirus 2004 crashed could not run...
I uninstalled the Antivirus software, rebooted and reinstalled another
Symantec Antivirus v8.0

Everything looked fine after that... but what I did not notice is that IE
can no longer execute on a site that has any kind of scripting, ( activex,
ASP.NET etc...) I would get a blank page on those sites, or it would say
that scripting is not enabled.
Even the Windowsupdates.microsoft.com does not work anymore... I tried to
reinstall XP Service Pack2 with the hope the Update would reset whatever was
broken but I get an error message from the Update.exe
"Setup could not verify the integrity of the Update.inf. Make sure the
Cryptographic service is running on this computer"
I verified that this Service is running and is set to Automatic.

The SP2 source is the same I used to initially apply SP2 on my System, after
I downloaded it from Microsoft.com

I am at an impasse... I am forced in the meantime to use Netscape 7.2 on my
system while I find a way to fix Internet Explorer.
Another Strange thing: I clicked on Help/About to show the IE version, the
About box opened but no version is displayed
I have this:
Version:
Cypher Strength:
Product ID:

nothing displayed...
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated,

SJ

I was having a similar problem....you need to get rid of all the registry
entries for Symantec and Norton antivirus. Registry First Aid is a good
product to help with this. Ensure that you delete your temp files and common
"shared" file folder Symantec is renamed. Hope that brings you closer
