Internet Explorer Hangs when clicking on links or filling in forms

I have win98SE. My internet connection is faster than a
T1. About two weeks ago, inexplicably, the following
started:

When I click on a link in IE6, or try to fill in a form,
the program pauses for 5-20 seconds quite frequently. IN
other words, the program freezes, than, maybe 15 seconds
later, I will audibly hear the "click" and then in starts
loading the page or the cursor moves to the next field in
the form. In other words, the program doesn't seem to do
anything for that 5-20 seconds.

There is no adware or spyware on my computer. No funky
resident memory programs. I tried uninstalling IE, and
reinstalled it. Didn't fix anything.

I have found that lots of people post similar problem on
the internet, but find no answer. Help.

I have the same problem. IBM 600X, W98. After a few
minutes of browsing, click a link or nav and nothing
happens for several minutes. Netscape on the same machine
doesn't do it. Have reinstalled twice, nothing. Help, all
the posts I could find with answers were in reference to
WXP, not 98.
