Internet Explorer freezes

TonyUK

I am running a new Vista Home Premium laptop. I have selected Google.com as
my home page. Normally, when I open Internet Explorer, I can use Google to
highlight selected websites. But in the past two days I can open Google, but
when I spell the name of another site, and click to select, Google actually
freezes. Occasionally it will open a page of website links. But any one of
those links, if selected, will also freeze when I try to select it. I do not
think this is a problem with Google, which is operating normally on another
computer, nor with server problems: the other computer has no problems.

If anyone has any ideas as to how this problem can be resolved I would be
extremely grateful.

Get the latest version of Flash Player from Adobe.
Your computer being NEW, is about 3 months behind in updates.

Thanks for the advice Mick. I am using the XP machine for this
correspondence. I will try to get to the Adobe site, if that will open for me

Run Internet Explorer with no add-ons. Possibly an add-on is causing the
issue. I also just had a client's machine in here - severely infected - and
even after cleaning both IE and Firefox would not go to Google. IE would
actually freeze and take explorer.exe down with it. It turned out to be
something called Yahoo Browser enhancements. Once I uninstalled that,
everything worked perfectly.

So get rid of all extraneous third-party toolbars, add-ons, and see what
happens.

Run IE7 without add-ons - Start > Run>iexplore.exe -extoff [enter] OR
Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)

I got Adobe latest flash drive. It changed nothing, but thanks for the
advice. I am responding to Malke on this matter and you can read what I did
that worked. I do wish to thank you for your kindness in giving me advice. I
have been working with Windows XP for years and I do appreciate people who
take the time to help and not just mouth off to secure their insecure egos.

Malke: I think you and I had some brief correspondence years ago on a Windows
XP matter. I always appreciate the fact that someone as professional as you
takes the time to help poor old guys like me.

In this instance you hit it right on the button. I have to say that, after
selecting "Start" on the Vista machine, I could not see the word "Run", so
that was not pursued. The second choice you gave me was followed by me, but
just told me in the end that there were no add-ons.

However, I knew that there were some add-ons. So your informative remarks on
the subject at the outset caused me to open Internet Explorer on the Vista
machine, and then dump every add-on manually, including one I also have on
Win XP which is McAfee Site Advisor. With the ship lightened by heaving
overboard several tons of junk the program lit up like a Christmas tree and
worked thereafter like champ.

I was getting ready to shove in the recovery disk and spend 24 hours
restoring everything: and would probably have made the same mistakes again.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Regards

Tony

You are extremely welcome. I'm very happy that I was able to point you in
the right direction and now things are working well. Thanks for taking the
time to let me know.
