"Internet Explorer cannot download"

M

Michael

Whenever I attempt to download a file (exceptions -
Microsoft updates work OK), rightclick on a link and
use "Save Target As" or click on a link that
requires Acrobat, RealPlayer, or any other non-IE
software to open (possible exception - where the player
is embedded into the IE window, eg BBC Broadband news), I
get the following error message:

"Internet Explorer cannot download [...] from [address].

Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet
website. The requested site is either unavailable or
cannot be found. Please try again later."

I have IE6 with SP1, and "Do not save encrypted pages to
disk" is unchecked in Tools/Options/Advanced/Security,
which would be a potential source of a problem like this.

I have AVG running, but this hasn't caused any problems
before. I have also tried out a range of IE security
settings.

Please help! I posted this before without response, and
have put some more information in this posting.

Thanks

Michael

Select :problems on this index for some issues.

Rule out parasites.
IE 6.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com

and:

SpyBot-S&D
http://security.kolla.de/

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

More: This may be caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware,
parasite).
Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.

Thanks a lot.

In the end, it was deleting all my temporary internet
files that fixed the problem. :)

Cheers,
